Augustus "Doyle" Wiggins (January 15, 1930 – October 14, 2017)

Biography

Doyle Wiggins sang lead for the Gospel Melody Quartet (later renamed the Florida Boys) from 1952-1953, following their original lead singer Roy Howard.

When J G Whitfield formed a new group called the Messengers in 1960, he chose Wiggins to be their original lead singer. Just as he had changed the name of the Gospel Melody Quartet, Whitfield also changed the name of the Messengers. They became the Dixie Echoes in 1962. Wiggins left the Dixie Echoes about a year after the name change.
