William Lee "Bill" Baize

(September 17, 1939 - May 15, 2023)

Biography

Bill Baize sang tenor for The Illinoisans, the Trailsmen, and The Concords. He joined the Smitty Gatlin Trio in 1966 and sang with them for about a year. Baize is best remembered for the years he sang tenor for J D Sumner And The Stamps from 1971-1976. The group was actively touring with Elvis Presley during the years Baize was a member of the Stamps. He left his position with the Stamps in 1976 to become vice-president of the newly formed National Record Company which was a music distributor. Baize later started an evangelistic preaching and singing ministry.

After many years out of the spotlight, Baize resurfaced in 2006 to sing tenor for the Prophets. He has also appeared at various tributes to the late Elvis Presley. Baize was also an accomplished songwriter.
