Custom Records

Also called Independent Release

History

Custom Records is a designation that refers to "table products" - recordings by an artist that are not released through an established record label. Southern Gospel artists often release two or more recordings each year. Usually, only one of those is released by the record label they are signed with. The other releases are done by the artists themselves. They often do their own arranging, producing, and engineering on these non-label projects. The result is often referred to as a "table product." Many artists such as Greater Vision have their own label to put on such projects. Those who do not have their own label have their projects fall into the generic "custom records" designation.
