History

Testify was founded in the Spring of 1995 by two brothers, Kenneth Swanner and Brent Swanner. The group originated when the brothers collaborated for a Youth Evangelism Conference in 1994. The group officially launched in February 1995. Initially performing as a duet, they invited college friend, Daniel Steele, to sing baritone. This trio recorded an independent self-titled album in 1995.

In 1996, Testify won The Albert E Brumley Memorial Gospel Singing Contest in Springdale, AR. A year later, the group temporarily became a quartet when Steele moved to bass and Philip Bergeron was hired to sing baritone. Steele departed soon after and the group remained a trio for the remainder of its existence with Landon Thompson singing baritone for the majority of that time. During this time, Testify recorded albums for Son Sound Music Group and Chapel Records, working with producers Danny Funderburk and Michael Sykes.

In the mid 2000s, Testify released three independent recordings produced by Buddy Mullins. They received a letter from President George W. Bush in 2004 thanking them for their song "In God We Trust." In 2005, Testify was nominated for the Diamond Awards Trio of the Year and also for the SGM Awards Trio of the Year.

In 2012, Brent and Kenneth Swanner announced a farewell tour that concluded on November 17, 2012 in Monroe, Louisiana, the city where Testify's 18-year journey started.
