The Royals (????-1973)

History

The Royals were from Houston, Texas. Harrold Johnson formed the Royals with the first members being himself, Bettye Johnson, Roy Tremble, Leroy Kimbrell, and Tommy Howe.

Leroy left and in came Vince Obar. Roy left and R.W. Jr. (Winston Blackwood) recommended Larry Gatlin. Steve Warren joined playing the bass guitar. Bettye became pregnant and left and in came Pat Hoffmaster. Larry left and Steve started singing lead and Laddie Cain filled in on the bass guitar. Vince left and Chris Curry started playing the Piano.

Dale Berry started playing the bass guitar. Harrold left and Steve, Pat and Tommy kept going as a trio with Dale playing the bass guitar and also added Rick Statum on drums for a period of time. Chris left and Steve started playing the piano and singing lead. Pat joined the Blackwood Brothers during the 1973 NQC and Steve, Dale, and Tommy sang through the end of that year to finish the dates that were already scheduled.
