History

Doug Roark and Tim Rackley (sometimes billed with his middle name as "Wayne Rackley") launched The Old Paths in the fall of 2003 after spending three years together as members of the Rowlands, a group based in Morristown, TN. The group name was suggested by Tim’s father, Lamar Rackley, inspired by Jeremiah 6:16: "...seek ye the old paths...and walk therein." The group began as a trio, but eventually converted to a quartet with the addition of Chattanooga, TN native Brandon Barry singing the bass part.

The Old Paths began their ministry concentrating on church services rather than concert venues. They have associated with and performed at the Georgia Baptist Convention, Dr. Jerry Vines Evangelism Ministries, Alabama Baptist Convention, and various Pastor's conferences and meetings. The group’s mission is to uplift, encourage, minister, and present the gospel through music, testimony, and God's word.

The group started gaining national attention with the addition of former Kingsmen tenor Jeremy Peace and the release of their Today project featuring the single “He Chose the Tree.” A young group getting national attention usually means more established groups start taking notice of the talent in the group. Brandon Barry left to join the Stamps Quartet and at the end of 2008, pianist Joe Cox and bass Trent Adams became members of the Blackwood Quartet. The Old Paths continued as a trio with Jeremy singing tenor and playing piano on selected songs. This lineup released three recordings.

In 2010 as they prepared to release their Wonderful Life recording, pianist Trey Ivey joined the group. Just after the project’s release, the group sent out word to expect a surprise at that week’s concerts. That surprise was the return of Brandon Barry, whose vocal was ultimately added to the new project.

The group released Simplicity in 2011, a project of requests recorded with a three piece band. The project was so popular that the group began work on a sequel almost immediately. Simplicity Too was released later that year with new bass vocalist Daniel Ashmore.

The Old Paths signed with Crossroads Music Group in 2012 and released Right Now in April of that year. The first two radio releases from that project, "Battle Stand" and "God's Great", reached the number one position on the Singing News Top 80 chart. The follow up project, These Truths, also included two number one radio singles, "Long Live The King" and "Love Them To Jesus".

In May 2015, the Old Paths announced that they were retiring from the road effective December 2015.

In January 2017, the Old Paths announced their return with previous members Tim Rackley, Douglas Roark, and Daniel Ashmore being joined by former Anchormen and Gold City tenor Steve Ladd. The group said they would perform limited dates, allowing Ladd to continue his solo appearances. The newly formed group reestablished ties with the Harper Agency and Crossroads Label group.

2022 brought major changes for the group. It was announced in November 2022 that the group would be taking suggestions for a new name after the Old Paths moniker became associated with some problematic themes online, and December 2022 saw the departure of long-time bass singer Daniel Ashmore. He was replaced in January 2023 by Andrew Utech, formerly of the Dixie Echoes and Eternal Vision and twin brother to Alex Utech of the Down East Boys.

The group's new name, Anthem Edition, was finally announced on March 15, 2023. Member changes were announced in the fall as Steve Ladd vacated the tenor position and the group added Cameron Edens on tenor, along with Joshua Stone as pianist and Sean Chapman as sound engineer.
