James E. "Jimmy" Jones (February 5, 1921 - June 12, 2006)
Biography
Jimmy Jones was born on February 5, 1921, in Scottsville, KY.
Jones got his first exposure to Southern Gospel music in 1944 when he began singing on KTHS radio with the Melody Boys Quartet. He joined the Rangers Quartet in 1951 and was the founder of the Deep South Quartet in 1954. He also sang with the Sunshine Boys.
It was with the LeFevres starting in 1957 that Jimmy Jones became a widely known gospel singer. The LeFevres were one of the core groups on the famous Gospel Singing Caravan along with the Blue Ridge Quartet, Johnson Sisters and the Prophets Quartet. Jones was recognized for his poetry and recitations as much as for his bass singing. The LeFevres were rather unique during Jones' tenure, because Rex Nelon was a member of the group at the same time. The two performed dual bass vocals on songs like “Hide Me, Rock Of Ages.”
Jones continued to work for the LeFevres’ Sing Publishing Company after he retired from full-time traveling. He also managed a part-time group called The Heralds for more than two decades.

Biography
Jimmy Jones was the first full time tenor for the Dixie Melody Boys in the mid-1970s. In addition to singing, Jones also took care of the bus and played bass guitar. Henry Daniels, Dewey Williams and Greg Simpkins were also part of the group when Jones sang with them. The songs "He Came Back" and "When I Cross to the Other Side of Jordan" appeared on the charts during Jones' tenure.
