Grand Ole Gospel Reunion

History

In 1987 on August 15th, the Palmetto State Quartet celebrated their 39th anniversary with a big gospel sing in Greenville, South Carolina. The event also celebrated the history of Bob Poole, a popular Greenville radio personality who had a gospel show for many years.

The event was such a success that promoter Charlie Waller expanded it the following year to create the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. Featuring Southern Gospel artists and groups of the past, the event brought many singers back together for the first time in many years.

The Grand Ole Gospel Reunion became an annual event that Waller promoted for nearly 30 years. He moved the event to other cities some years but always retuned to Greenville. During the 1990s, the event packed out the Greenville Memorial Auditorium for multiple nights. The Grand Ole Gospel Reunion was downsized in the 2000s with the final events held at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville during the mid-2010s.
