The Gospel Song Shop
The Gospel Song Shop was a half-hour black and white television show produced by Showbiz, Inc. that first aired in Greenville, SC. It was a forerunner to the Gospel Singing Jubilee. The show launched in 1961 and featured the Florida Boys. Florida Boys lead singer and manager Les Beasley was the show's co-producer alongside Florida Boys founder J G Whitfield who focused on marketing.
The Song Shop’s key sponsor was the Chattanooga Medicine Company, makers of Black Draught powdered laxative.
In 1964, the show transitioned to an hour-long color format and was rebranded the Gospel Singing Jubilee. Jane Dowden oversaw the transition. One year later, she was named president of Showbiz, Inc.
