Southern Sound (2001-2017)

Southern Sound was launched by Ben Harris in 2001. He was joined by his brother Keith (baritone), bass singer Charles Brantley, and tenor singer Roger Sweeney. Ben Harris was the consistent leader of the group until they retired in 2017. The group was known for Harris' arrangements which featured smooth harmonies akin to the classic sound of the Statesmen. Harris' vocal tone and expressions reminded fans of Jake Hess.

By 2012, the group lineup consisted of Harris with Mike Young (tenor and son of David Young), David Fair (baritone), Rick Fair (bass), and Barry Patrick (piano). All four of the other group members left Harris in 2012 to relaunch the Rebels with Alan Kendall. Harris relaunched Southern Sound with new singers, a couple of whom were only with the group briefly. By the end of 2012, the lineup had settled with Will Shaw singing tenor, Paul Ross singing baritone, and Michael Arnott singing bass.

The final lineup when the group retired in 2017 included Mike Franklin singing tenor and Randy Shaw (Will's cousin) singing baritone along with Harriss and Arnott.
