Glen Allred (June 19, 1934 - July 22, 2022)

Biography

Glenan "Glen" Allred was born in Monroe, Tennessee in 1934, the son of Homer Edmond and Lois Grace Allred. He joined Wally Fowler's Oak Ridge Quartet when he was 16 to play guitar and fill in singing for Fowler whenever Fowler didn't travel with the group. Allred moved to the Gospel Melody Quartet in 1952 and sang with that group (since re-named the Florida Boys) for more than 55 years. Allred was recognized for his continuous service in gospel music in 2001 when he was inducted into the SGMA Hall of Fame. Glen Allred and the Florida Boys retired in 2007.

Glen is the father of Randy Allred.
