Biography

Alvin Moore is a native of Mississippi. He was a member of a quartet at Hinds Community College in Mississippi. He left Hinds and spent the entire year of 1949 and a short period in 1950 as the bass singer of C.R. Melton’s All American Quartet first in Carbondale and later in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. His voice can be heard on quite a few of the quartet’s recordings. When he left the All American Quartet, Moore returned to Hinds to continue his education. He graduated from Hinds and went on to graduate from Mississippi Southern College (now named the University of Southern Mississippi) and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Moore served as a full-time minister of music for many years with service in Vicksburg, MS; Columbia, SC; Miami, FL; and Philadelphia, MS. He later went into business and continued as a part-time minister of music in the Union, MS area until his retirement. He continues to enjoy singing bass with various groups at his church.
