Hi Neighbor Quartet (194?-19??)
The Hi Neighbor Quartet was based in Anderson, South Carolina. They were a "weekender" group with members working regular jobs during the week and traveling to sing Thursday through Sunday. They were also heard on Anderson radio station WAIM which helped them maintain regular appearances.
Bobbie Jean White, who later performed with the Smitty Gatlin Singers was a member of the group in the 1940s and 1950s. Other group members during this era included Marvin Shaw (lead), Walter Pickens (baritone), George Mack (bass), and Carlyle Bearden (pianist). Incidentally, Pickens was a brother-in-law of tenor singer Bill Shaw who sang for many years with the Blackwood Brothers.
The group recorded several 78 and 45 singles during the 1950s on the Bibletone label. They were one of the label's first artists along with the LeFevres.
